Dr. Kutukov's research has been concerned primarily with environmental heat interaction of buried pipelines. Dissimilar surroundings demand different way of the task solution. Distinctive feature of this work has been represented in development of a heat dissipation equation based on empirical models of the soil freezing up - thawing out. Moreover, some ways of pipeline construction have been suggested to redesign transpermafrost pipeline section. However, the empirical way of solving is bulky very much and it doesn't satisfy all modern requirements. We've offered a Maths modelling method based on computer calculation of the non-linear differential parabolic equation system of heat transfer into heterogeneous environment such as a freezing up or thawing out surrounding soil. This task was solved by calculus of finite differences, having applied Laplace conformal mapping of the designed field. Apparent parameters of heat interaction were adapted to the operating conditions of the gas-condensate pipeline "Urengoy-Surgut". More recently, his work has focused on the rationale of the some pipeline operation from efficiency point of view. This has led to comprehension of the technologic pipeline monitoring as an engineering of operating deviation diagnosis, genesis of occurring failure and prognostication of operating condition.
Currently, a shut off pipe technique is being developed as a particular application of cryologic engineering. That has required transforming obtained solution into another field. The first part of project involves the development and experimental testing of a new equation system for describing the freezing up of petroleum hold in the pipe. The second one involves the design and production of the construction prototype. The third part involves the device set appraisal and adaptation onto the crude oil pipeline.
2000-2003 Doctorate: Development of methodology for intelligent system of operational mode monitoring for pipeline 'Functional Diagnostics of Oil Pipeline Operating Modes'. The system identifies all deviations of pumping technology and shows probable reasons why it occurs. This development allows choosing the best solution in changing conditions to personal of a pipeline company. Given solution lays in overlap the Expert System, Geoinformation System and Inverse heat&hydraulic task solutions of pipeline transport technology. Some lines of approach to the particular solution were described in 21 publications, discussed at conferences, workshops and oil congress in 1996-2003.
